Where do you bank?

Looking into IRAs has got me thinking about where we currently bank and whether we want to make a change. Where do you bank and are you happy with your choice? You don't have to name the bank but feel free to. I'm more curious about the type of institution like national bank, local bank, online bank, credit union, etc.

Re: Where do you bank?

  • I keep my day-to-day funds at a credit union.  My emergency fund, travel fund, and play funds at an online bank that offers "higher" interest rates.  My IRA, 401k, etc are at various investment firms.  My mortgage is the only thing I have with an actual bank.

  • Local credit union.  We really like them.

  • I have my main account at Wells Fargo. a joint (house) account with DH at BofA, and a savings account with my credit union. I have to say that I am most happy with my credit union.

  • Local credit union and local bank with about 6 branches for day to day money, because we haven't combined accounts yet. Also, there is no place besides an atm to go for a credit union, because it is all online. Have CDs in various credit unions, banks and online banks. Love Ally for CDs. They have a great rate. No retirement savings yet. I would love to go entirely to a credit union, but until the statute of limitation is up for the accident, we won't be doing anything.

  • I have my checking account, savings account, and starter credit card through Bank Of America. I've had an account with them since I was about 15 and they've always been great. About 3 years ago around christmas time, I had someone steal my bank account information (I had swiped m debit card and someone used some sort of reverse software to take my debit card imprint, or at least that's what the bank told me). Within a day, they had spent about $1,500. BofA caught the odd activity, called me, and put a stop to that account. They sent me a replacement card within a couple days, and replaced the money with 48 hours. Ever since then, I've been even more loyal with the company.

Yes, that sounded like a commercial, but they've been great in every situation with me so far :)
